June 2016 “Chemistry at Work” Science Days in Milton Keynes

Over 300 students are expected so far and there is still space on the Tuesday for one more student group at our annual three-day event for Years 7 to 10, open from Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th June 2016 at the Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre.

We have already booked the following demonstrations to date:

Alchemy, the Philosopher’s Stone and Gold…. – See how to turn copper into silver and then into gold
Bees – pheromones and the fascination of keeping honey bees
Dangerous Dust – the dangers of asbestos and why we still use it (quizz approach)
Earthworms – a chance to handle and understand different types of worms
Going up in Smoke – a serious look at the effects of smoking (with examples)
Hair Styling Gel Formation – see how the industry works and make gel
Lovely Hair, Shame about the Skin – a scientific look at human hair
Poisons and How They Work – with a chemical model and historical cases
Healthy Horses – the diet of a horse (with a live horse)
Soil and Water – the science of soil drainage
The Magic of Oxygen – with historical discoveries and whiz-bangs
Water Purification – with tasting.

Schools bring groups of 15 to 20 students and they experience 8 of the demonstration in a day.
